Thanks for tuning in
Portal – powered by MiBiz – is all about the high tech work world in West Michigan and the innovative types that operate within it. Think of this publication as Pulp Space meets Cyber Space … although we hasten to point out that this Portal, like all previous editions, is readily readable, printable and forwardable at www.mibiz.com . Simply navigate to the Portal page.
And now on with the show …
In the CHAT ROOM this time around are three members of the Holland-based Geeks Group, a loosely designed network of tech professionals from around the region. Checkout the insights of Daniel Morrison, Collective Idea (www.collectiveidea.com); Mike Boyink, Boyink Interactive (www.boyink.com), Train-ee (www.train-ee.com), and EllisLab (www.ellislab.com); and Beth DeWilde, principal/CRO of Paragon Recruiting, (www.paragonusa.com) .
Just beyond the CHAT ROOM is a windy tale of tech innovation blowing out of the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center in the Muskegon SmartZone. Our COVER STORY, entitled Windpreneurs, whisks you into the realm of alternative energy and the development of a startling new microturbine product. Your hosts, Dr. Imad Mahawili and Reg Adams, love to shoot the breeze.
Next up is Storytime – which we label “TECHNOPRENEURS” – which once again contains an awesome lineup of intriguingly creative companies engaged in leveraging some aspect of technology.
Our first stop is in Otsego, where the serious surfin’ is done at Safari Circuits Inc. Every tech gizmo known to mankind relies on circuitboards, so it doesn’t get much more tech than this. Grab a board and start surfin’ …
To the Web, you say? O.K., we begin with Classic Labs, a small startup with a new application program called Ascribe which is currently spreading like wildfire among area construction companies. ‘Build it and they will come?’
Next on our whirlwind tour is the short ride out Fulton Street to Ada and the sprawling HQ of Alticor Inc. Tucked inside is a unique product development workshop that goes by the name of Fulton Innovation. Today’s quest: understand the workings behind — and the prospects ahead — for the firm’s very cool eCoupled technology. This is definitely worth plugging into.
We now do an about face, jump back onto the Web, and go high steppin’ it up www.MilitaryAvenue.com. We came away saluting Middleville’s Kissinger family for developing a unique, strategic business concept … and for making life a bit less stressful for our great American military families. At ease, soldier.
Finally, we take a sneak peek at a largely stealth-like DornerWorks LLC. This clandestine outfit is engaged in rocket science level stuff between its design and test work in extreme safety-critical applications and its expertise in reverse engineering a multitude of high intensity tech products. Shhh …
That’s all folks. Be sure to join us next time and don’t forget to e-mail us with story ideas and interesting technopreneurs in your wired … or unwired … world of technology. Address: editor@mibiz.com.
