Successful candidates would work closely with the managing editor to develop story ideas about the West Michigan business community, learn the inner workings of a hybrid in-person/virtual newsroom, and publish original stories online or in the biweekly print publication.
Other duties may include covering meetings/events, compiling merger and acquisition deals, and picking up general assignment stories when available. Ideas on alternative formats of storytelling are also encouraged.
A $2,400 stipend is included with the internship. MiBiz is happy to work with students to receive credit for this internship if applicable for your major/field of study. This internship opportunity will be supervised by the Managing Editor/Editor of MiBiz.
Interns would be required to work roughly 10 hours per week, for 16 weeks in an in-person or virtual setting. MiBiz is flexible on start/end dates based on your semester.
Prior journalism coursework or related experience is required. Previously published work is preferred but not a requirement. Successful candidates will have an interest in the news gathering process and value journalism’s role in an informed public. The program is available to undergraduate and graduate students.
