GRAND RAPIDS — A prominent building in downtown Grand Rapids has new ownership.

Grand Rapids-based CWD Real Estate Investment today announced it purchased the historic Trade Center Building at 50 Louis Street NW, at the intersection with Ionia Avenue.

The Trade Center currently offers office and retail space and is 35 percent occupied, according to a statement from CWD. Tenants of the 75,000-square-foot building include Lee & Birch women’s store as well as several office users, such as the Federal Public Defender’s office.

Scott Wierda told MiBiz that CWD is not currently working with a restaurant for the first floor of the building, as had been rumored.

According to a statement from CWD, the building is more than 100 years old and includes one of the city’s first Masonic Lodge temples. CWD plans renovations for the facility as it markets the building to new tenants. Wierda said his team has not yet selected a contractor to do the work, but they hope to start the renovations by summer.
