Lynx Network Group is a wholesale and retail provider of telecommunication services that focuses on providing links to the rural and underserved areas in Michigan that competitors typically avoid because of high entry costs. A facilities-based provider, Lynx owns more than 1,200 miles of fiber assets. In 2011, Lynx doubled its annual revenue and is projecting a 34 percent increase in 2012.


How have you managed to grow your company?

The key to our success is threefold. We have strong a company philosophy and belief system that is embraced by everyone. We have continued dedication by the team to provide our customers with exceptional service and support. We have been incredibly successful hiring highly skilled staff that embraces this business as if it were their own, and I believe that as long as we continue to hire great people, we can’t fail.

How did you survive the recession?

Since we started Lynx in 2003 we have always focused on being proactive when hiring staff and growing our business, while also being conscious of every penny going out the door. We have not only been able to survive the recession, but we have flourished and are on a path to triple not only our staffing in the next 18 to 24 months, but quadruple our revenue.

What’s the largest challenge you have in your business?

Our largest challenge is not falling asleep at the wheel. We need to be constantly looking at where we want to be in the next two years, five years and 20 years. Things can, and always will, change in our industry, and if we take our eye off the future, for even a moment, we could lose everything. We have built this company by always looking forward and hiring the best of the best.

What’s the best entrepreneurial advice you’ve received?

The best advice that we received was probably related to the optimal number of partners/owners to have in our company. We have three owners today and the value and benefit is that with a majority rule, decisions are able to be made quickly with input from different viewpoints. It is very hard to start a business, so in order to succeed you have to be able to trust in your partners.

How do you innovate in your company?

We need to continue to do everything better than our competition. If we are not providing our customers with a better, more reliable product or service, a better customer experience from the first time we talk up to and through our installation process, billing and follow up support, then we need to be asking ourselves, “Why Lynx?”

What’s your company’s biggest opportunity?

Our biggest opportunity is building a company that is anchored to our core values and beliefs of innovation, teamwork and integrity. Our promise to our customers is to provide an exceptional level of customer service with uncompromising integrity, to provide rural and underserved areas of Michigan with competitive access to broadband service, to promote continuous improvement through a 360-degree perspective, to give back to the community through our corporate and employee outreach programs and to hire and retain the top talent in the industry.
