WEST MICHIGAN — Five West Michigan companies received support for corporate expansions thanks to incentives approved May 23 under the new Michigan Business Development Program.

The program has the state putting in $3.53 million in incentives toward a combined $96.7 million in corporate investments from Amway Corp., Center Manufacturing Inc., MedDirect Inc., Huntington Foam LLC and Muskegon Castings Corp.

Amway affiliate Access Business Group received $1.6 million in Business Development Program incentives from the Michigan Strategic Fund and approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corp. The company plans to invest $81 million to expand production of soft gels and tablets for its Nutrilite division, creating 200 new jobs over three years.

Byron Center-based Center Manufacturing received a $300,000 incentive for its plans to invest $1 million and create 100 jobs over three years. The investment will allow the company to grow its new product offerings as well as increase its production capacity for components for Honda Power Sports.

The MEDC also approved a $750,000 incentive for Grand Rapids-based MedDirect, which is planning a $2.1 million expansion that it says will create 300 new jobs over the next three years.

The Right Place Inc., the regional coordinator for the MEDC, helped the three companies navigate through the approval process for the incentives.

Additionally, Greenville-based Huntington Foam received $340,000 in incentives for a $2.56 million expansion that could create an additional 30 new jobs.

Muskegon Castings Corp., part of the Port City Group of companies, received a $540,000 incentive to expand its existing Michigan operations by establishing a new facility in the City of Muskegon. Muskegon Castings plans to invest up to $10 million, resulting in the creation of 55 new jobs.
