KALAMAZOO — The Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce will set up a search committee soon to begin looking for a new leader.

Steward Sandstrom steps down July 13 as president and CEO of the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce. Sandstrom, who came to Kalamazoo in 2006, is leaving to become president and CEO of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce in Springfield, Ill.

“My service with the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce has been a very rewarding experience and leaving the relationships within our membership and the community will be difficult,” Sandstrom said. “I am extremely proud of my team and our accomplishments over the past six years. I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that are sure to come with my new found role in Springfield.”

Sandstrom oversaw all operations of the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber and its foundation and political action committee. Under his leadership, the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber was recognized as the Michigan Outstanding Chamber of Year by the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals.

Chamber directors plan to establish a search committee in the weeks ahead that will seek a successor to Sandstrom, said board Chairman Jeff Hawkins, the president of Envirologic Technologies.

“We are tremendously grateful for the steadfast leadership that Steward has delivered the organization and business community over the past six years,” Hawkins said. “He has been a strong advocate for our community and an ardent champion for our business members. We wish him and his family the best in this new role and future endeavors.”
