Orion Construction said marketing firm Hanon McKendry and its digital affiliate MINDSCAPE at Hanon McKendry will be two of the major tenants at the new Arena Place Development in downtown Grand Rapids, according to a news release from the Grand Rapids-based developer. Orion also said the development will feature a ground-floor restaurant, retail space, leasable conference and event space on the top floor, and a 75-unit rental and condo residential property. Grand Rapids-based restaurant operator Meritage Hospitality Group, Inc. (OTCQX: MHGU) said it is evaluating the opportunity to bring a casual dining establishment to the property, according to the release.  MiBiz first reported details of the development back in June. 

Tier-1 automotive supplier Plasan Carbon Composites, which recently opened a manufacturing facility in Walker to make carbon fiber body panels and other parts, announced today that it has partnered with Toray Industries, a Japanese-based provider of organic synthetic chemistry, polymer chemistry and biotechnology. As a result of the deal, Toray acquired 20 precent ownership in Plasan Carbon Composites, according to a statement. The partnership allows Plasan to bring additional materials and technologies to the market that will help automotive customers shed weight from vehicles. Muskegon-based specialty retailer Family Farm & Home plans to open its 27th store on Aug. 9 in Sparta, the company said in a statement to MiBiz. The location, 53 Applewood Drive, was last occupied by Pamida and sat vacant for about a year. Family Farm & Home sells merchandise geared toward rural and suburban living, including agricultural and home products. [10:53 a.m.]
