Aug. 12, 2013: Dematic introduces new high-capacity sorting system; BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting earns grant

Ann Arbor-based consulting group BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Small Business Association’s Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program. BBC specializes in consulting for early-stage tech and life science companies looking to receive federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants. The grant — one of 20 given, each for $95,000 — will be matched by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). [3:50 p.m.]

Dematic, a Grand Rapids-based global engineering company, has introduced a new product FlexSort™ SL2. The high-capacity sorting system can be used throughout warehouses and distribution systems to sort the highest amount of cartons at the slowest possible speed. FlexSort is said to be able to sort 200 cartons per minute at 400 feet per minute. Its peak rate is 400 cartons per minute. [11:42 a.m.]
