Aug. 27, 2013: Lambert, Edwards, and Associates wins national award; GVSU set to host health care leader conference; Michigan Rehabilitation Specialists acquired by ATI Physical Therapy

Michigan Rehabilitation Specialists has been acquired by ATI Physical Therapy in Bolingbroook, Ill. The Grand Rapids-based ATI, which operates 32 clinics across the state, including a Kentwood location, will change their name over the next nine months. The deal includes the company’s partners, Excel Rehabilitation Services and Quantum Physical Therapy. More than 300 employees of Michigan Rehabilitation Specialists will join ATI. Financial terms of the transaction were not released. ATI Physical Therapy operates more than 250 clinics in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware. The company specializes in physical therapy, work conditioning, hand therapy, aquatic therapy, sports medicine and women’s health. [3:50 p.m.]

Grand Valley State University is set to host a cohort of health care leaders at the sixth annual Interprofessional Education Conference. Keynote speakers include Richard C. Breon, president and CEO of Spectrum Health; Stephen C. Shannon, president of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine; Madeline Schmitt, expert panel member for the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice; and Ruth Nemire, associate executive vice president of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Speakers are expected to discuss the positive effects associated with team-based patient care. The conference will take place at the DeVos Center on GVSU’s Pew Campus on Sept. 19-20. [3:45 p.m.]

In additional Grand Valley State University news, the institution will dedicate the new Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons on Sept. 3. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and honor the 1,400 donors who contributed roughly $20 million to the $65 million project. [3:45 p.m.]

Grand Rapids-based Lambert, Edwards, and Associates (LE&A) today announced they were awarded the 2013 Financial Agency of the Year in the Bulldog Stars of PR Awards. The national awards, which are judged by journalists, are meant to honor outstanding achievement by communication firms and professionals. LE&A was picked for its series of highly-successful investor relations and financial communications campaigns, according to a release. The firm also handled several IPOs, equity offerings and private equity funds along with their portfolio companies.
