Business Leaders for Michigan wants to find ways to make the state a winner once again.

The organization is gathering leaders from across the state to focus on the state’s competitiveness, entrepreneurship and talent at its second annual CEO Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit.

Speakers from West Michigan include Steelcase’s Jim Hackett, Haworth’s Dick Haworth, former Perrigo CEO Mike Jandernoa, and Meijer Inc. Co-CEO Hank Meijer.

“West Michigan has deep roots in innovation, productivity and leadership –all assets that, leveraged correctly, can help propel Michigan into the winner’s circle,” Doug Rothwell, president and CEO of BLM, said in a statement.

Attendees of the daylong event will get a preview of the 2013 Economic Competitiveness Benchmarking Report, as well as find out how Michigan ranks against its peers.

Former Gov. John Engler, now president of the Business Roundtable, is among the keynote speakers, as is author and futurist Daniel Burrus, who will discuss strategies for finding hidden opportunities and creative problem solving.

The program features a handful of breakout sessions on successful Michigan-based companies, including Meijer, La-Z-Boy Inc., Two Men And A Truck International Inc.

The goal from the sessions is to help Michigan outline a winning agenda that will position it for growth in the future, Rothwell said.

“We’ve taken steps to make Michigan competitive, but being competitive isn’t enough,” Rothwell said. “The Michigan CEO Summit is an opportunity for Michigan’s business and opinion leaders to align behind ideas that will propel us beyond being competitive and into the winner’s circle for investment, jobs and innovation.”

The event runs from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.. Cost is $125, including breakfast and lunch. For more information or to register, visit businessleadersformichigan.com/events or call (313) 259-5400.
