Aquinas College is breaking ground in December on an almost 30,000-square-foot residence hall for upperclassmen. The cost of the project, which includes 14 four-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments, is $5 million. Other features include two large lounges and an on-site laundry facility. The project is similar to the college’s Ravine Apartment D complex, which was built in August 2008 and is the school’s first LEED-certified residential building. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new living space, also seeking LEED certification, is scheduled for Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. [11:30 a.m.]

With the help of federal and state grants, The Rapid transit agency is officially launching a 15-month study in an effort to determine if Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is the best way to meet future ridership demand on the Lake Michigan Drive corridor. The “Laker Line study” is also expected to identify a long-term investment strategy that meets future mobility needs, supports economic growth and adds environmental benefits, according to a release. Ridership on the 50 line, which carries passengers between Grand Valley State University’s downtown and main Allendale campuses, increased dramatically in the last 10 years. The route carried approximately 179,000 riders in 2002, jumping to more than 1.4 million riders in 2012, the release stated. The first round of public in-person meetings are scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 21 as follows: 8 to 10 a.m. at the Walker Fire Station in Standale; Noon to 2 p.m. at the Kirkhof Center on GVSU’s main campus; 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rapid Central Station in downtown Grand Rapids.
