After more than four decades in the office furniture industry and 13 years after founding Izzy+, Chuck Saylor plans to retire this summer and turn over leadership to a new generation.

Saylor plans to step down as president and CEO of Spring Lake-based Izzy+ in mid-July when he turns 65 years old. Succeeding Saylor is Kevin Kuske, 46, who joined the company Jan. 27 from Steelcase Inc., where he was the general manager from 2009 to 2014 of the Turnstone brand whose products are geared toward small businesses.

The leadership transition fits with Saylor’s ideal of positioning Izzy+ to design products that foster collaboration and serve a new generation of office workers.

“I’ve always said this is not about me. This is about where the next generation is headed in the future,” said Saylor, who is currently serving a term as president of the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association board of directors. “It’s time for the next generation leader.”

Saylor started the company as Izzydesign in 2001 in partnership with Grand Haven-based JSJ Corp. The company, originally named after Saylor’s granddaughter, Isabel, was renamed Izzy in 2008 and presently employs about 300 people.

As the new CEO, Kuske “brings not only great experience but shares our passion for empowering and leveraging people for growth,” Saylor said. “I’m eager to see the next step in the development of Izzy+ under Kevin’s leadership.”

Kuske joined Steelcase in 1997 and helped to turnaround the company’s wood products division. Although Kuske was not looking to leave Turnstone when approached, he says he found “a kindred spirit” with the Izzy+ brand and could not turn down the opportunity.

“Chuck has established a tremendous legacy and created a powerful brand with Izzy+, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him to build upon what he’s done and to bring the products and spirit of Izzy+ to even more people in the future,” Kuske said. “It’s my passionate goal to make Chuck and all the employees and fans of Izzy+ extremely proud as we move forward.

“Following Chuck Saylor’s visionary path, we intend to continue to be pioneering and come up with innovative, beautiful products and smart solutions for even more customers.”
