Grand Rapids-based Mill Steel Co. has expanded its operations with a new facility at the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville, where it already plans to add on to continue to grow its business, executives announced on Monday.

The flat-rolled steel supplier plans to invest $16.1 million in the facility in Jeffersonville, Ind. on the Ohio River beginning in June.

“We felt it was absolutely critical to position ourselves at a location that will enable us to continue our delivery of outstanding just-in-time services to our growing automotive, construction, appliance and general manufacturing customer base,” CEO David Samrick said in a statement.

The company has purchased a 105,000-square-foot building and plans to add on an additional 120,000 square feet. The new facility will have two slitting lines, as well as a cut-to-length line. The expansion is expected to result in 43 new full-time positions.

Mill Steel has existing operations in Grand Rapids, metro Detroit and Birmingham, Ala.
