Brendan Looyenga, biochemistry professor at Calvin College, secured a $295,939 grant from the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health.

The grant will support Looyenga’s neurology and oncology research. The handful of students chosen for this research will look at how these proteins turn normal cells into ones that form tumors over time. The grant will be able to fund the project over three years.

Over the past five years, Calvin College’s science division has received more than $30 million in grants. The latest grant will additionally fund equipment and microscope rentals at Van Andel Institute.
