Holland-based Motus Integrated Technologies LLC has acquired the assets of Grand Rapids-based Leon Automotive Interiors.

The Tier 1 manufacturer of headliners, sun visors and overhead systems made the acquisition to enhance its manufacturing presence in Mexico and add new interior product lines to its portfolio.

“Through the acquisition of Leon, we are enhancing our already experienced and dedicated team, and we are expanding our product portfolio with the addition of key, high-quality interior components and production capabilities,” said Shannon White, President and CEO of Motus, in a statement.

Leon Automotive will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary of Motus, according to the statement.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Motus was originally formed in June 2014 after Atlas Holdings LLC – a Greenwhich, Conn.-based private equity firm – purchased the business from Johnson Controls Inc. The company currently employees 1,500 workers in manufacturing facilities in Michigan, Mexico, Germany and France.

Leon Automotive supplies interior decorative trim components, including door and console armrests, instrument panel trim, interior handles and others. Beyond its Grand Rapids facility, the company operates manufacturing facilities in Ramos Arizpe, Arteaga and Saltillo, Mexico.
