Michigan tourism agency Travel Michigan and tech giant Google Inc. have announced a new partnership to add Michigan destinations to Google Maps.

At this morning’s Michigan Tourism Conference at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, along with Travel Michigan vice president David West and representatives from Google, unveiled the new technology that will put sites such as the Mackinac Bridge, Ford Field and Sleeping Bear Dunes on Google Street View. These sites were not previously available on the service, according to a statement.

The images were gathered using Google’s proprietary Trekker technology.

According to the statement, this is the first statewide partnership Google has embarked on using its Trekker technology.

“The Pure Michigan campaign has elevated Michigan as a national travel destination, and we are taking that one step further by having these images globally accessible on Google Maps,” Calley said in the statement. “This initiative combines our natural beauty with innovative technology in a way that really speaks to all that Michigan has to offer visitors, residents and businesses alike.”
