A West Michigan retailer plans to invest in store renovations at four locations in Ohio.

Walker-based Meijer Inc. said today that it plans to invest about $50 million in upgrades at four supercenters in the Dayton area, according to a statement.

Paradigm Design Inc. of Grand Rapids was involved with the project, according to renderings Meijer posted on its website.

The company expects work to begin this month and wrap up by the end of the year. The stores will remain open during the projects, which will convert the stores to Meijer’s new floor plan layout with wider aisles and redesigned departments.

“Our customers expect high standards from us, and our investment in these stores will ensure they enjoy the best shopping experience we can provide,” Co-Chairman Hank Meijer said in a statement.

Meijer operates 213 stores across the Midwest, including in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. It opened its first stores in the Dayton area in 1991. The company is also in the process of expanding with a series of new stores in Wisconsin.
