Executive Air Transport Inc. of Muskegon recently concluded a six-year leadership transition to new ownership.

Terry Boer, an executive who served as the vice president of the company, has acquired the company, according to a statement. The deal officially closed on April 1.

“After 33 years in the aviation industry, this was a natural progression. I am very excited about this opportunity,” Boer said in the statement.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Currently, the company is still facing challenges from the downturn due to decreased charter activity from corporations, Boer said.

“The aviation sector lacked in the recovery,” Deboer told MiBiz. “Once we get over the hurdle of companies traveling more, it should get better.”

In the meantime, Boer plans to capitalize on a shortage of commercial pilots by offering flight training programs to its service portfolio, he told MiBiz. The company will also move into aircraft maintenance.

Executive Air Transport was originally formed in 1959 and provides charter and aircraft management services, Boer said. The company currently employs 25 people at its facility.

Previous owner Rex Vanderlinde had worked at the company for 30 years before taking over ownership in 2005. Vanderlinde chose to exit the business to pursue other ventures, Boer said.
