Kalamazoo College President Eileen B. Wilson-Oyelaran announced her retirement today, effective June 30, 2016. According to a posting on the college’s website, a search for a new president will begin immediately.

President Wilson-Oyelaran has headed Kalamazoo College since July of 2005.

Chief among Wilson-Oyelaran priorities during her tenure was the implementation of a 10-year strategic plan for Kalamazoo College that sought to develop modern curriculum. Included in the “K-Plan,” as it was called, was emphasis on liberal arts studies, study abroad programs, greater internship and networking opportunities and social justice leadership.

She also added three new majors during her tenure: Business, women’s and gender studies and critical ethnic studies.

“Those elements, alone and in concert, enhance the four years that students spend at Kalamazoo College and will enhance students’ lives for years to come,” said Wilson-Oyelaran in the statement on the Kalamazoo College website.
