Walker-based Meijer Inc. has expanded its Detroit presence.

The supercenter retailer has opened its second store in the Motor City, a 200,000-square-foot store located on the city’s northwest side near the intersection of Grand River Avenue and West McNichols Road. The store sits on the site that formerly housed Redford High School, according to a statement.

The store will carry a variety of products made throughout Michigan, as well as in Detroit, in addition to standard grocery and household items typically found in Meijer. The store will employ 300 people, the statement said. The chain opened its first Detroit location at 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in 2013.

The new store is one of 11 supercenters the chain plans to open in the Midwest this year.
