CHICAGO — Zeeland-based contract furniture designer and developer DSA International LLC has taken on an office furniture industry veteran as an equity-holding partner.

At the NeoCon trade show in Chicago, executives at the company announced that Paul Nemschoff had joined the DSA as a partner. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Last year, Nemschoff left the position of vice president of seating at Zeeland-based Herman Miller Inc.

DSA International CEO Brad DeBruyne and COO Mark Bouwman told MiBiz that talks with Nemschoff had been ongoing since late last year and accelerated in March or April.

“(Herman Miller was) a great opportunity and I’m a huge fan of the company, but ultimately, I got to the point where I wanted to re-embrace more entrepreneurial opportunities,” Nemschoff said.

Nemschoff joined Herman Miller in 2009 after the company acquired his family’s firm, Nemschoff Inc. of Sheboygan, Wis. At the time, Herman Miller said the deal helped bolster its capabilities in the health care market.

DSA executives said Nemschoff’s investment and involvement in the firm is predominantly related to his desire to pursue a new opportunity at a smaller company and leverage his contacts and experience with contract manufacturers on a global scale.

About 90 percent of DSA’s revenue, which was between $15 million and $25 million annually, comes from overseas. DSA has roughly 70 employees with offices in Zeeland, Vietnam and Thailand.
