CHARLOTTE — Spartan Motors Inc. plans to build a new manufacturing plant at its campus in Charlotte, Mich.
As part of the so-called Spartan F Project, Spartan Motors (Nasdaq: SPAR) expects to use the 85,000-square-foot manufacturing facility to produce Class 6 and Class 7 medium- to heavy-duty trucks, according to city records.
Production at the new facility, which is expected to create 55 new jobs, is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2017, according to minutes from a Feb. 22, 2016 Charlotte city council meeting, where the project was presented.
Spartan Motors will build the new facility at the former location of Care Free Windows, a shuttered aluminum storm window manufacturer, according to a March 21 story in the Lansing State Journal.
Spartan Motors manufacturers chassis for heavy truck, fire trucks, motorhomes and other vehicles.
Calls to the company were not immediately returned.
