LANSING — Neogen Corp., a Lansing-based manufacturer of food and animal safety products, has acquired Brazil-based Deoxi Biotecnologia Ltda, an operator of an animal genomics laboratory.
According to a statement, Neogen’s acquisition of Deoxi comes as the company plans to push its GeneSeek animal genomics product into Brazil, which has roughly 200 million cattle. By comparison, the United States is home to roughly 90 million cattle.
“Deoxi has excellent facilities, and an excellent reputation with its customers, which include research institutions, universities, and animal breeding companies,” Neogen Chairman and CEO James Herbert said in the statement. “Brazil is a critically important country for an animal genomics company to be in. Brazil has the most cattle, is only behind the United States in the production of beef, and is a leading producer of pork and chicken.”
Deoxi’s management and staff will remain with the company.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
