Construction subcontracting firm Kent Companies Inc. plans to expand operations to Northern Michigan.
The Grand Rapids-based concrete subcontractor said in a statement that it sees the Traverse City area as a solid location for expanded growth.
“More businesses and industries are choosing to operate in West Michigan and beyond,” Kent Companies CEO Jeff VanderLaan said in a statement. “As our state and regional economies expand, the entire construction industry must meet the demand for new and revitalized facilities, housing and more. Kent Companies’ presence in northern Michigan gives our team another critical access point to serve our customers. This is strategic and planned growth.”
Kent Companies vice president Steve DeVries will oversee the expansion efforts and business development initiatives in the Northern Michigan market.
The company had previously operated in the area in the mid-1990s through approximately 2008 but business contracted during the recession, company spokesperson Leah Gradl told MiBiz in an email.
Kent Companies also operates in Texas, North Carolina and central Ohio.
The firm reported revenues of approximately $160 million in 2015, as MiBiz previously reported.
