The Michigan State University Board of Trustees will soon decide whether to approve Norman J. Beauchamp Jr. as the new dean of the MSU College of Human Medicine, headquartered in Grand Rapids.
Beauchamp would bring more than 14 years of experience as a leader in medical education. He’s served as professor and chairperson at the Department of Radiology in the University of Washington, as well as medical director of the Seattle/King County Clinic in Seattle, Wash.
This position would mean a return to Grand Rapids for the MSU alum, who received both his bachelors and masters degrees in biology and health science respectively from the East Lansing-based school.
“Dr. Beauchamp has a unique understanding and appreciation of the complex mission of the College of Human Medicine,” MSU Provost June Pierce Youatt said in a statement. “He understands the imperative to support research in critical areas, to deliver the highest quality preparation for the next generation of physicians, and to continue to add value to the communities in which we are engaged.”
If approved, the appointment would be effective Oct. 1.
