Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss met today with leaders of local nonprofits to announce GRgives, a city-wide Giving Tuesday campaign.
Giving Tuesday takes place nationwide on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, partially as a reaction to the consumerism of Black Friday.
GRgives is meant to bring together businesses as well as community leaders and members in a fundraising and volunteer effort for local nonprofits.
“GRgives provides an opportunity for the entire Grand Rapids community to make an even bigger local impact united around Giving Tuesday this year,” Mayor Bliss said in a statement. “As a City of Service, we are working to engage citizens to address local needs – and GRgives is a way to do just that. Through GRgives, we hope to engage new, thoughtful donors and volunteers while bringing the community together to support important causes through donations and volunteering.”
Part of the campaign is the launch of a website, grgives.com, which is intended to make giving online easier and provide information for the more than 3,000 nonprofits in Grand Rapids.
