LOWELL — An increasing appetite for cage-free eggs among consumers will result in a $2 million expansion project for Poultry Management Systems Inc.

The producer of egg handling, environmental control, monitoring and other equipment and software plans to hire 27 workers as a result of the project, which includes building a new 15,000-square-foot facility at 890 OE Bieri Industrial Dr. in Lowell.

The Right Place Inc., a Grand Rapids-based economic development firm, assisted the company with its expansion project, coordinating a $175,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and an industrial tax abatement from Vergennes Township.
