Richard Carlson, the president and CEO of the Muskegon-based Goodwill Industries of West Michigan (GIWM), will retire March 31, being succeeded by Jeanette Hoyer.

Carlson has been with the company for 40 years, becoming president and CEO in 1992. Since then, GIWM has grown from four stores to 16 stores and from a $2.6 million to a $23.6 million organization. The nonprofit also grew from 137 to 400 employees.

Hoyer started with GIWM in 2015 as the mission services director. Prior to that, she served for 11 years as the executive director of child welfare service provider Pathways MI.

“Jeanette has thoroughly embraced the Goodwill mission,” Carlson said in a statement. “Her deep caring for people, her strong executive experience in West Michigan, and her track record to date with Goodwill, uniquely qualifies her for the position.”
