LANSING — Gov. Rick Snyder today commissioned a pilot program aimed at creating a state infrastructure management plan.

West Michigan and Southeast Michigan were both chosen as target areas for the pilot project, which will include data gathering on the current state of infrastructure in the regions and determine a course of action to improve those areas, according to a statement.

The program will focus on infrastructure ranging from transportation, water, sewer, stormwater, energy and broadband access.

Stakeholders in the pilot project will have one year to deliver a set of recommendations to the Snyder administration.

The directive comes as one of the recommendations provided by Snyder’s 21st Century Infrastructure Commission earlier this year.
