The diversified manufacturer Arconic is investing $104 million in its Whitehall operation and creating 45 jobs.

The manufacturer is planning a 103,000-square-foot expansion with new equipment at its Howmet Corporation facility, at 1 Misco Dr., the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, or MEDC, said today.

Howmet deals in investment casting super-alloy airfoils for aerospace engines and industrial gas turbines.

The company is expanding operations to “meet growing demand from aerospace engine customers,” particularly increased demand for key jet engine components, MEDC said.

Michigan was chosen over competing sites in multiple locations.

The MEDC is awarding the project a $495,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.

The City of Whitehall approved a 50-percent tax abatement.

The existing plant site in Whitehall has limited area for expansion, so the city is in the process of approving several local variances and site plan approvals, as well as local street improvements estimated at $270,000 and sanitary sewer lift station improvements estimated at $300,000.

Earlier this year, Arconic announced a $10-million investment in high-tech machinery at the same facility.
