Michigan ranks near the top nationally for the growth of women- and minority-owned businesses in the middle-market segment. That’s according to a new national report from American Express and Dun & Bradstreet, which analyzed 136,603 middle-market businesses, defined as companies with annual revenues of more than $10 million but less than $1 billion.

Medbio specializes in injection molding, assembly and packaging for medical and biotechnology companies that require extremely complex geometries and close tolerances. The company averaged annual revenue increases of 30 percent during the past two years and expects growth of 19 percent this year. Medbio in 2011 moved to a new facility that nearly doubled its floor space.

WaterSolve started in 1999 as a chemical solution provider, but in the mid-2000s helped pioneer a new technology in dewatering – geotextile woven tubes – that reduce customer costs. 2011 saw the company continuing innovation with automated mobile chemical treatments systems for large remote projects.
