“A lot of businesses are doing quite well. They generate more of their own activity; there is no tailwind pushing anyone along. I see a lot of people making small bets. They are not looking for home runs and grand slams. They’re looking at bunts and singles that will keep things moving. Undoubtedly, the businesses that are doing well would be doing much better if the economy was better. They are working harder and may be getting less of a return on their efforts. This is the time when you have to stay on the balls of your feet. Things can change very rapidly, so you make your plans but are ready to abandon them if you need to. We won’t be passive. We will keep doing things. You have to make things happen. We will continue to go globally to find business in those parts of the world that are experiencing growth.”
