LANSING — As one of the oldest agricultural extension programs in the country, Michigan State University Extension continues to serve the state's farmers and agribusiness communities despite dealing with serious funding cuts over the past four years. 

The Michigan State University Extension serves as the cooperative extension service for Michigan and is affiliated with Michigan State University. In essence, it serves to make available MSU's agriculture research to agribusinesses and communities across the state.

GRAND RAPIDS — Shifting its ground from the east and west coasts, the BALLE Business Conference will move to the heartland this May and give local businesses, entrepreneurs and community members the opportunity to explore and discuss issues pertaining to the growth of local, interconnected economies.

As the weather warms up and the days get longer, the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition and its partner organizations encourage professionals to ditch the car and use a healthier and more eco-friendly method to get to work during the inaugural Active Commute Week this May.

Michigan Innovation Index rises

The innovation sector of Michigan’s economy continues to improve from recession levels, according to an index developed by iLabs, the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Center for Innovation Research.

Most professionals dread large-scale meetings and events: the packets, the lines, the droning speakers. Even small, in-house meetings develop into sources of stress and angst. Companies both large and small have developed time-tested practices that smooth the wrinkles meetings and events can cause, even as technological innovation shifts the meetings landscape.

Students from seven colleges came together on Saturday to answer the age-old investment question: “Buy, sell, or hold?”

TEDx events returning in 2012

Entrepreneurs looking to surround themselves with other innovative thinkers take note: TEDx events are returning to West Michigan. TED, which stands for technology, entertainment and design, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “Ideas Worth Spreading,” that organizes a system of talks, events, and conferences that have become popular in recent years. Recently, independently organized TEDx events cropped up in several cities in West Michigan, including Holland, Grand Rapids and Muskegon.
