Thanks to strong job growth and shrinking inventory in a number of asset classes, commercial real estate brokers in West Michigan expect growth through the first half of 2014.

Nearly four years after its completion at a cost of $1.8 million, the city-owned Ionia-Mason parking lot in downtown Grand Rapids is nearly filled to capacity — with snow.

While investments in Grand Rapids’ urban core remain a focus for CWD Real Estate Investment LLC, the developer also has expansion plans for its suburban holdings.

More high-tech co-working space will soon be available in downtown Grand Rapids as Rockford Construction Co. and Haworth Inc. today pull the wraps off their Blue35 project.

More details have emerged about development plans for the Aslan Building at 600 Seventh Street on Grand Rapids’ west side neighborhood. Working with Canadian investment partners, Grand Rapids-based Orion Real Estate Solutions is planning to renovate the building into a mixed-use residential development called Seventh St. Lofts.

The West Michigan region is losing its diamond-in-the-rough status, but that’s not bad news when it comes to commercial real estate.

As The Right Place Inc. markets the region’s capabilities to expanding companies over the next three years, it plans to talk more about one of greater Grand Rapids’ key competencies: design.

Visbeen, GMB part ways after merger

Roughly a year and a half after GMB Architects + Engineers Inc. acquired Visbeen Architects Inc., the firms have ended their partnership. The companies dissolved their relationship late last year with representatives from each firm calling the split a mutual decision.

West Michigan construction executives might relish the chance to take a three-day trip to Palm Springs, Fla. in the middle of February. But the trip is more than a vacation for CD Barnes Construction Executive Vice President Todd Oosting, who’s meeting up with an “invaluable” industry peer group that helps members better their individual businesses.

A building on Grand Rapids’ West Side initially renovated by developer and businessman Bob Israels now has new ownership.
