GRAND RAPIDS - Father John Geaney, CSP, director of the Catholic Information Center, today announced staff changes for the Grand Rapids Center. Irene Strom has been promoted to Associate Director of Programming. Kelly McLaughlin has been promoted to Associate Director of Marketing and Public Relations.

Strom brings with her over 30 years of experience in business operations and was instrumental in the Catholic Information Centers move from its previous location on Ionia St. to its present location at 360 Division S. Strom received her MAT in Education from Aquinas College. She will be responsible for the development, execution and follow up for all CIC evangelization and educational programming and special events. In her new capacity, Strom will be contacting local and national speakers to provide for continuing adult formation education in Grand Rapids. She will also be working with local Catholic parishes to determine their adult educational needs through the “On The Road” program.

McLaughlin’s primary focus will be on promoting and expanding the reach and impact of the CIC’s evangelization and educational content. She will be responsible for communication strategy, branding, and messaging across various media outlets. McLaughlin has her BA in Communications from Michigan State University and formerly worked in customer relations at Steelcase.

“I am delighted that people who have been associated with the CIC for a number of years are able to be promoted within our organization,” Father Geaney said. “Irene has worked in every area of CIC and now will be charged with making sure our programming is top flight,“ Geaney added. “Kelly has worked with us for the last three years in a part time capacity and shown lots of aptitude in our marketing areas. So, my hope is that in taking over the important area of marketing and PR for the CIC, the programming we have available for the people of West Michigan will become better known.”

The Catholic Information Center is a ministry of the Paulist Fathers, a religious order specializing in evangelization, reconciliation and ecumenism and inter-faith relationships. The CIC mission is to collaborate with the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids in serving all people in western Michigan. CIC programs and services are especially geared to those who:

  • are unchurched and seeking spiritual/religious support (evangelization),
  • are alienated from the Church, and seeking emotional and spiritual healing (reconciliation),
  • belong to other Christian denominations and other faiths, who are seeking a deeper understanding of Catholicism (ecumenism and inter-faith relations).

The Catholic Information Center is equipped with a Multi-Media Café. The café offers complimentary refreshments, wireless internet access and a variety of spiritual resources including Paulist Press books. Books are available for purchase.

The CIC is open from 9:00am – 4:30pm and 6:00-9:00pm, Mon through Thurs, as well as 9:00am – 1:00pm, on Fridays.

More information about the CIC is available at www.catholicinformationcenter.org
