When MiBiz broke news that Spectrum Health plans to bring 500 I.T. workers to a new office in downtown Grand Rapids, many quickly praised the health system’s continued investment in the city. But the move certainly gave other business owners pause once they realized Spectrum Health would need to find parking for all those employees. After all, the perception persists that the core downtown area lacks available parking options, despite studies to the contrary.

Grand Rapids-based Spectrum Health recently acquired 12 acres in northern Grand Haven Charter Township, adjacent to a Meijer Inc. store and near the border with the City of Grand Haven. The joint venture formed in June between Spectrum and Holland, known as Health Pointe Corp., and plans to develop a 120,000-square-foot, three-story medical office building that it hopes to open by 2017, according to documents submitted for review to Grand Haven Charter Township.
