Aerospace manufacturer to expand in Grand Rapids

Aerospace manufacturer Jedco Inc. plans to invest $9 million to expand capacity in West Michigan, the company announced today.

A subsidiary of Universal Forest Products Inc. plans to acquire the assets of a Georgia producer of packaging products.

The Chicago-based owner of two West Michigan malls has reached an agreement to sell in a deal that would reportedly create one of the largest retail property companies in the country.

A West Michigan-based supplier of medical equipment has acquired Clean Start Surgical LLC of Plymouth.

ZEELAND –– An affiliate of Zeeland Farm Services Inc. plans to purchase a soybean facility, soy flour mill, grain elevator and non-GMO soybean inventories in Creston, Iowa.

Automotive supplier Shape Corp. is selling its stamping operations facility in Spring Lake, the company announced Thursday.

GAINES TOWNSHIP –– An industrial property firm with ties to retailer Amazon.com Inc. is the developer behind “Project Rapids,” a massive fulfillment center proposed for southern Kent County.

Backed by a recent capital infusion and experiencing rapid growth, Grand River Aseptic Manufacturing Inc. plans to quadruple capacity with the development of a new facility south of downtown Grand Rapids.

Bobby Hopewell, mayor of Kalamazoo since 2007, announced on Monday evening that he won’t seek re-election next year.

GRAND RAPIDS –– Trillium Ventures MSV LLC, a Grand Rapids-based multifamily investment and property management firm, has acquired a 112-unit apartment property in Minneapolis.

Rehmann and Trivalent Group to merge

Accounting and consulting firm Rehmann and Grandville-based I.T. service provider Trivalent Group plan to merge April 1.

GRAND RAPIDS –– BarFly Ventures LLC, the Grand Rapids-based parent company of the HopCat chain of craft beer-focused restaurants, announced Monday that it plans a second location in the area.

GAINES TOWNSHIP –– Developers representing an online retail behemoth are considering a 100-acre site in southern Kent County for a “massive” distribution facility, MiBiz has learned.

• M&A: Kalamazoo-based Imperial Beverage Co. will enter the Upper Peninsula market after acquiring the beer distribution business of Bayside Beverage from Highland Park-based Great Lakes Wine & Spirits LLC. The move also consolidates distribution for the MillerCoors family of brands as well as opens a new territory for Imperial, which now has four locations in Michigan, according to President Joe Cekola. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal included an 18,000-square-foot warehouse facility in Ishpeming, Mich. as well as distribution rights for Constellation Brands’ import portfolio, the Boston Beer Co. family of brands and a handful of craft beer brands, including Michigan-based Griffin Claw Brewing Co. and Latitude 42 Brewing Co. Imperial plans to hire roughly 20 employees as a result of the acquisition, including four employees from Bayside. A year ago, Imperial also expanded into spirits as an authorized distributor agent for the state. For Great Lakes Wine & Spirits, the deal follows an August sale of beer distribution rights in Traverse City and Petoskey to Grand Rapids-based Alliance Beverage Distributing LLC.

Boyne USA Inc., the Petoskey-based ski resort company that does business as Boyne Resorts, plans to acquire seven properties it currently leases and operates around North America.

Business law firm Bodman PLC has announced that it will move to the 99 Monroe Ave. NW office building in downtown Grand Rapids.

P&G, Ranir settle patent case
