616 Lofts receives B Corp certification

616 Lofts receives B Corp certification

BY Nick Manes Wednesday, March 16, 2016 01:33pm

GRAND RAPIDS — Grand Rapids-based urban development firm 616 Lofts LLC has become a certified B Corporation, according to a statement.

The designation, administered by Wayne, Pa.-based nonprofit B Lab, demonstrates through reporting and third-party verification that companies meet “rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.” To get certified, a company must get a minimum score of 80 on B Labs’ performance measurements, as well as meet certain legal requirements.

616 Lofts received an overall score of 97, compared with a median score of 55, according to B Lab’s online score card.

“Our B Corp certification provides a framework for honesty and illuminates the path to being better humans, building a better business, to build a better community,” said Drew Coppess, 616’s director of sustainability.

616 Lofts is now one of 1,640 certified B Corps in the world. They join local companies such as Brewery Vivant, Bazzani Building Co., Catalyst Partners LLC and Cascade Engineering Inc.
