Blue Cross Blue Shield seeks approval for small business rate increases

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is seeking state regulatory approval for a relatively small average rate increase of 2.9 percent for small businesses in 2017.

The average increase would cover more than 225,000 members enrolled in small group policies across the state and follows small decreases implemented over the past year as medical cost trends moderated. Blue Cross Blue Shield last year provided rebates to group customers and lowered rates 3.3 percent.

“Blue Cross strives to offer our business customers options they can afford in order to remain competitive and provide high quality health coverage to their workforce,” said John Dunn, vice president for middle and small group business at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
