California manufacturer to open $4.2 million Kentwood plant

KENTWOOD — A California-based wood products manufacturer plans to invest $4.2 million into a new West Michigan plant.

Stikwood of Sacramento will create 73 jobs over three years by locating a manufacturing facility at 4849 Barden Ct. in Kentwood, according to a statement. Founded in 2012, the company manufacturers “Peel & Stik” wood planking from reclaimed and sustainable sources.

The expansion will allow Stikwood to increase production of the product, as well as produce a new line that’s under development, according to the company.

“We’re excited to begin the next chapter of Stikwood’s story in West Michigan, a region known for its strong manufacturing heritage,” CEO and owner Laura McCall said in a statement.

To support the project, the Michigan Strategic Fund today approved a $400,000 performance-based grant.

Stikwood considered sites in Utah, Texas and Tennessee, according to Therese Thill, vice president of business development at The Right Place Inc., who noted the process of attracting the company to the region was “extremely competitive.”
