GRAND RAPIDS - Boutique retailer Apothecary off Main plans to expand its presence in downtown Grand Rapids.

The seller of men’s grooming products, travel goods and other lifestyle items plans to vacate its 779 square feet of space in the MoDiv retail incubator at 40 Monroe Center and move to a 900-square-foot space on the ground floor of mixed-use building The Morton, located at 76 Monroe Center, according to a statement.

Both properties are owned and managed by Grand Rapids-based general contracting, development and property management firm Rockford Construction Company Inc.

“It has been amazing to be able to be a part of MoDiv, and we could not be more delighted to grow into a new, larger, space in the heart of downtown,” Store Director Jill Devan said in a statement. “As our city has grown, we have been able to welcome so many people to our shop. As our client base has increased, we began looking at a larger space that will allow us to continue to grow the number of products we offer.”

Apothecary Off Main — which originated and maintains a store in Vista, Calif., north of San Diego — expects to have its new Grand Rapids store open sometime in June.

Lease rates on ground floor commercial space at The Morton are between $12 and $20 per square foot, depending on the suite.

Designed as an incubator for small, primarily lifestyle-focused retailers to grow, Apothecary stands as one of a handful of companies to outgrow their MoDiv space.

“Apothecary Off Main joins a growing list of businesses who start in a small suite, and grow into their own retail storefronts,” Mike Mraz, managing partner of real estate at Rockford Construction, said in a statement.
