BENTON HARBOR — Jeff Fettig will step down as the CEO of Whirlpool Corp. after leading the Benton Harbor-based manufacturer of consumer products since 2004, according to a statement.
Fettig will continue to serve Whirlpool as chairman of the board.
Marc Bitzer, Whirlpool’s president and COO will succeed Fettig on October 1, 2017.
“My primary role is to support Whirlpool, Marc and our leadership team in this planned CEO transition,” Fettig said. “I am effectively stepping away from our day-to-day management after 36 years of service and the last 13 as CEO. As a company, we have achieved significant milestones during this time through the great work of Whirlpool people throughout the world. Going forward, I believe we have more opportunities than ever before in our 106-year history. I know Marc, and our Whirlpool leadership team, will continue to achieve great things for our company in the years ahead.”
Bitzer began his tenure as president and COO at Whirlpool in 2015 and has been with the company since 1999 when he was appointed as vice president of the Bauknecht brand group for Whirlpool Europe.
