McCann Erickson and affiliate win $35 million in state marketing contracts

LANSING — Global advertising firm McCann Erickson and sister company Weber Shandwick won nearly $35 million in new contracts today from the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF). 

McCann Erickson submitted winning proposals to develop and launch two individual marketing campaigns. The MSF board issued the advertising firm $25.2 million over a one-year period for a campaign aimed at increasing tourism travel and spending in Michigan, according to documents from the MSF and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. 

McCann Erickson also won a $7.5 million contract to launch a campaign to attract new jobs in growing industries. Both contracts begin Oct. 1 and run through Sept. 30, 2017 and are eligible for four, one-year term renewals with additional funding available.

McCann Erickson maintains an office in Birmingham, a suburb of Detroit.

Weber Shandwick, a sister company of McCann Erickson housed under New York-based Interpublic Group of Cos. Inc.,also won a $2.15 million contract to provide public relations and social media services to the state.

The MSF is an appointed body that oversees funding various economic development programs in the state.
