GRAND RAPIDS — After acquiring the assets of Anderson, Ind.-based S&S Steel Services Inc. in early January, Mill Steel Co. announced it would relocate its Louisville, Ky.-based Midwest Painted Products Division to the former S&S plant.
The latest move comes as part of a consolidation strategy for the company as it looks to cut distribution costs and boost efficiencies, Mill Steel Senior Vice President, CFO and COO Eric Lambert, told MiBiz.
“Clearly, this is going to yield greater efficiencies and profitability,” Lambert said. “It’s truly a function of the success we’ve had in our existing footprint and will make room for additional company growth.”
Mill Steel plans to house its painted products division in 100,000 square feet of the former S&S Steel facility, according to a statement. The remainder of the 220,00-square-foot space will be dedicated to the facility's cutting and slitting capabilities.
