Orion Construction brings on partner for hotel project at Metro Health Village

WYOMING — The development arm of Grand Rapids-based general contracting firm Orion Construction Co. Inc. plans to build a new hotel in the southwest corner of Kent County.

Orion Real Estate Solutions said in a statement yesterday that it plans to build and develop a 107-room Home2 Suites By Hilton hotel on the campus of Metro Health in Wyoming.

The $13 million, four-story development will become the second hotel on the 170-acre campus known as Metro Health Village, located near the M-6 and Wilson Avenue interchange, that includes medical, retail and hospitality uses. Another developer, Wyoming, Mich.-based Granger Group, today announced plans for the third hotel at the site, an $8 million Fairfield Inn and Suites that’s set to begin construction in early summer.

A Hyatt Place hotel is also on the site.

Orion Construction will partner with Chicago-based real estate firm Gateway Investment Partners LLC on the development, according to a statement.

The company previously helped to develop a similar hotel near the Cleveland Clinic.

Construction on the 57,000-square-foot hotel is expected to begin this spring with completion planned for spring of 2018.
