After a lengthy, and ultimately unsuccessful lease negotiation, popular downtown Rockford restaurant Reds On the River has decided to vacate its space in The Promenade Building at 8 E Bridge Street.
The restaurant, operated by Redwater Restaurant Group LLC, plans to move to Thousand Oaks Golf Club off of 5 Mile Road and East Beltline Ave., according to a statement.
When it reopens in April, the restaurant will be rebranded as Reds at Thousand Oaks.
“Although we love being located in downtown Rockford, we were met with a difficult decision, either grow and evolve in a new space, or be limited by the current lease, parking area, and the constraints of the building,” said Craig Smith, COO of Redwater Restaurant Group in a statement.
The new space will allow Reds to double its kitchen space and expand its menu, and build a new bar and dining space.
The restaurant has operated in its space in downtown Rockford for nearly 10 years. Rockford-based DJT Properties LLC owns the Promenade Building, according to property records.
In addition to Reds, Redwater Restaurant Group operates Gravity Taphouse Grille, Rush Creek Bistro, FireRock Grille, Cork Wine & Grille, and Vintage Prime & Seafood, all located in the greater Grand Rapids-area.
