HOLLAND — SAF-Holland Inc. will permanently close its Holland facility by October 2017.
The Luxembourg-based trailer, truck and bus supplier on May 19 will begin laying off its 97 employees at the plant, which is located at 467 Ottawa Ave., according to documents filed with the state.
The company’s Holland employes are represented by United Auto Workers Local 284.
SAF-Holland’s announcement comes as part of a larger corporate restructuring of manufacturing operations in its North American market. In January, the company announced it would consolidate its manufacturing facility in Muskegon and move production from that facility and its Holland plant to its other locations in Arkansas, Ohio and Texas.
An additional 133 workers will be laid off from the Muskegon facility, according to reports.
The company cited “continued weakness” in the North American truck and trailer markets as the primary driver of the plant closures, according to the statement.
A representative from SAF-Holland did not immediately respond to an attempt for comment.
