Schupan & Sons Inc. acquires Indianapolis recycler

KALAMAZOO — Schupan & Sons Inc. has acquired a majority interest in Trinity Metals, a metals recycler based in Indianapolis.

For Schupan & Sons, the acquisition marks a “natural fit” as Trinity specializes in selling recycled magnesium to aluminum producers, which comprise a sizeable amount of Schupan’s customer base, President and CEO Marc Schupan told MiBiz.

“I was made aware of (the sale) eight months ago and as we got to know each other, I was very impressed with the quality of the people and how they ran their operation,” Schupan said. “I didn’t have a strong interest in growing anything on the recycling side … but we have a really good fit.”

Trinity will become a business unit of Schupan & Sons following the acquisition and the company’s management will remain the same, Schupan said.

Schupan & Sons offers recycling, metals distribution and other services from its headquarters in Kalamazoo.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, however Schupan noted that his company purchased Trinity in an all-cash deal.
