BYRON CENTER — Food distributor and retailer SpartanNash Co. has promoted COO Dave Staples to the role of president and COO.
Staples has been COO since March 2015 after moving up from serving as CFO, a position he held since 2000. He will report directly to Dennis Eidson, who will remain the company’s chairman and CEO, according to a statement today from the SpartanNash board of directors.
In his new role, Staples will lead SpartanNash’s strategy and direct “all operating aspects” of its business segments in retail, wholesale and military distribution. Eidson will focus on long-term strategic growth plans.
“Dave has been an instrumental member of our team for the past 16 years and a key leader in our transformational merger in 2013,” Eidson said in a statement.
Staples was a past winner in the 2014 MiBiz CFO of the Year Award in the corporation category for his role in structuring the “transformational” $1.3 billion all-stock transaction in which Spartan Stores Inc. acquired Nash Finch Co. in 2013.
