Western Michigan University President to retire in 2017

KALAMAZOO — John Dunn will retire from his position as president of Western Michigan University on June 30, 2017.

Dunn has served as president of the university for a decade and will transition into the role of president emeritus for the year following his retirement, according to a statement.

During his tenure, Dunn oversaw the creation of Western Michigan University’s (WMU) Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and an affiliate that spawned the WMU Cooley Law School. Dunn also oversaw $500 million in construction projects during his career at WMU, according to the statement.

WMU has formed a search committee that will immediately begin looking for new candidates to take over the university’s leadership.
